Open Society Foundations Appoints an Economist as First Global Director of Equity

Laura Carvalho, a progressive economist in Brazil, will become the $18 billion grant maker’s first global director of equity next month.
She is an associate professor of macroeconomics and co-founder and director of the Research Center on Macroeconomics of Inequality at the University of São Paulo.
Economic Mobility Pathways
Kim Janey has been tapped as the new president and CEO of this economic-mobility charity in Boston.
She served as the acting mayor of Boston for eight months last year, after leading the Boston City Council as president. She was a member of the city council from 2018 until earlier this year.
Sikh Coalition
Anisha Singh will be the civil-rights organization’s next executive director.
Most recently, she was director of judiciary and democracy affairs at Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
United Way of New York City
Grace Bonilla, founding executive director of the NYC Covid-19 Racial Inclusion and Equity Taskforce, will become president and CEO of the organization in July.
She succeeds Sheena Wright, who was recently appointed deputy mayor for strategic initiatives for the City of New York under Mayor Eric Adams.

Heather Britt has been named executive director of Wilder Research, the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation’s independent policy-research arm. Previously, she was senior director of health-services analytics at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.
Amber Esseiva has joined the Studio Museum in Harlem as curator-at-large. Most recently she was curator for the Institute of Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Jon Kane, who has served as president of CCS Fundraising since 2016, will become president and CEO of the fundraising consultancy. Sarah Krasin, who leads its Boston office, and Edward Van Saders, chief financial officer, have also been promoted to partner.
Jason Resendez will become president and CEO of the National Alliance for Caregiving on July 5. He is the founding executive director of the UsAgainstAlzheimer’s Center for Brain Health Equity.
Other Notable Appointments
Arin Gencer, a senior adviser at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, will become senior director of communications at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation on August 1. She will work alongside Craig Demchak, its chief communications officer, until he retires on October 31.
Susanna Greer, senior scientific director of the Biochemistry and Immunology of Cancer Research Program at the American Cancer Society, has been named chief scientific officer at the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
Lynne Lee, executive vice president at Coaching Corps, is now chief development officer at the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. In addition, Cornell Wright has joined the group as its first chief health equity officer. He previously served as the executive director of the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities within the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Nathan Stevens, project director at Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses program, has joined the Coleman Foundation as a program officer.
Vicki Sidrow has been promoted from vice president to associate executive director of the Community Chest of Bergen County.
Kezia Stegemoeller, senior director of donor engagement at the Dallas Foundation, has been appointed chief partnerships officer at the T.D. Jakes Foundation.
