Election Resource Guide Available On Line

October 22, 1998 | Read Time: 1 minute

The John and Mary R. Markle Foundation and Harvard University’s Joan Shorenstein Center on Press, Politics, and Public Policy are using the Internet to make sure that nobody has an excuse for being uninformed this Election Day.

The two non-profit groups have created the Web White & Blue Web site. They hope it will serve as a clearinghouse to connect voters with the most comprehensive election information available on line.

The site is divided into six sections, including “issues” and “your state.” By clicking on “your state,” visitors will find links to 20 organizations, such as the California Voter Foundation, that post information about state-specific races and issues.

To help draw people to the site, the Markle Foundation and the Shorenstein Center have persuaded more than 900 groups to provide links to the Web White & Blue site. More than 5,000 people have signed up for a weekly e-mail update.

“It’s tremendously satisfying to see so many different organizations take some responsibility for informing the public,” says Catherine Clark, program director at the Markle Foundation.
