In this compilation of 36 articles, chapters, and essays, leaders in the nonprofit field examine what makes leading nonprofit groups different from managing government agencies or businesses. The volume also explores the reasons for those differences.
Sections discuss governing; legal issues; leadership and ethics; strategic planning; fund raising; entrepreneurship and commercialism; managing under government contracts; budgeting, financial reporting, and management control; volunteers; accountability and evaluation; and the role of U.S.-based international nonprofit groups.
The book was designed to serve as a textbook for graduate and undergraduate courses on nonprofit organizations and management. J. Steven Ott is a professor of political science and dean at the University of Utah’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
