After Surviving Tumor, Golf Star Starts Cancer Charity
June 26, 2009
Nine months after undergoing surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor, Severiano Ballesteros, a prominent Spanish golfer, yesterday announced a new cancer foundation, reports the Associated Press.
Mr. Ballesteros, 52, a former world No. 1 who won five major championships and 50 European Tour titles from the mid-1970s through the mid-‘90s, underwent four surgeries and chemotherapy in Madrid. His eponymous foundation will focus on treatment of brain tumors and will also provide support to young golfers with financial problems.
