Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Head Prepares to Step Down
September 17, 2009
Douglas W. Nelson will retire next year as president of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, ending a 20-year tenure that saw the organization’s giving for disadvantaged children and families grow nearly sevenfold, The Baltimore Sun reports.
The Baltimore foundation spent $240-million last year, compared to $35-million in 1990, Mr. Nelson’s first year on the job. Its assets have grown from $590-million to nearly $3-billion in that time.
Mr. Nelson will officially step down in April. The foundation has established a committee to seek his successor.
