Charities Hit by Pennsylvania Budget Impasse

Scores of Pennsylvania social-service organizations are cutting back spending and taking out loans as the state’s six-week-old budget stalemate dries up their sources of support, says the Associated Press.

Government and charity officials fear an irrevocable rip in the state’s social safety net unless the flow of money is resumed. Some populous counties are dipping into their own coffers or borrowing from banks to keep service providers afloat pending a resolution of the spending battle in the state legislature.
