Charity Founder Faces Embezzlement Charges

Nikki Tesfai, founder and executive director of the African Community Resources Center, in Los Angeles, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to charges of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds, reports the Associated Press.
Ms. Tesfai, an Ethiopian immigrant, was arrested after a four-year investigation on 25 charges of conspiracy, embezzlement, fraud, tax evasion, and grand theft, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Prosecutors allege that Ms. Tesfai defrauded her organization by more than $1-million. She could face up to 15 years in prison if she is convicted.
The charity did not respond to a request for comment from the Associated Press.
