Civil-War Veteran’s Donation Finally Makes Its Way to Charities

Three Pennsylvania nonprofit groups will split $10-million from a Civil War veteran whose last heir died two years ago, reports the Associated Press.
Adam Brinker served in the Army of the Potomac as a 16-year-old until his honorable discharge in 1863 and later made a modest fortune selling harnesses in South Bethlehem.
He left a portion of the interest on his estate of $552,000 to his descendants in 1928, stipulating that when the last one died, the Moravian Theological Seminary, St. Luke’s Hospital, and KidsPeace (then known as the Children’s Home) would each receive a portion of his estate.
