Cleveland Brothers Offer Record Gift to Jewish Federation

Three brothers have pledged a total of $16-million to help the city’s Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland renovate and move into a new headquarters, says the Cleveland Jewish News.

Jack, Joseph, and Mort Mandel will recommend that their family foundation make the grant through the federation’s Centennial Initiative, a capital and endowment campaign started five years ago. The gift would be the largest ever for a Jewish charity in Cleveland, according to federation officials.

The Boston Globe reports on an independent study that recommends sweeping structural changes for local synagogues and Jewish charitable groups, including the merger of several Boston congregations.
