Colleges Rapidly Expand Their Development Departments

At a time when many industries are suffering job losses, many college development departments are experiencing a hiring boom that shows no signs of slowing, reports The Chronicle of Higher Education.
With government support down and competition for dollars up, institutions without strong fund-raising operations face the risk of being left behind. “Public universities didn’t have to do this for many, many years,” said Rhea Turteltaub, vice chancellor for external affairs at the University of California at Los Angeles. Now, she says, “it’s out of necessity.”
