Company Plans to Donate Settlement Money to Charity

Hewlett-Packard, the information-technology corporation, settled cases this week with The New York Times Company and three BusinessWeek journalists after being caught spying on reporters in 2006 in an attempt to find the source of press leaks, reports PC World.

Terry Gross, the lawyer representing The Times company and the BusinessWeek reporters said that The New York Times plans to donate its settlement money to charity.

Neither party has disclosed the size of the settlements, but HP has already paid $4.5-million in a civil-case settlement with the State of California related to the incident.
