Connecticut Opera Shuts Down and Offers No Refunds for Subscribers

With attendance dropping and sources of financial support drying up, the Connecticut Opera is going out of business after 67 seasons, the Associated Press reports.
The opera’s bank account was frozen following a poor turnout for its November production of Don Giovanni. The company canceled its final two productions and notified its 2,000 subscribers that it will not be refunding tickets.
John Kreitler, chairman of the opera’s board, said the group would not file for bankruptcy, because that would cost too much, and plans to work directly with creditors to resolve debts.
