A summary of an article on operating foundations that appeared in the Friday edition of Philanthropy Today misstated the minimum amount such entities are legally required to spend annually on charitable purposes. An operating foundation must spend at least 85 percent of its adjusted net income or 85 percent of its minimum investment return, whichever is smaller.
