Court Allows Cleveland Museum to Tap Endowment for Expansion

An Ohio probate judge has granted the Cleveland Museum of Art’s permission to use up to $75-million in income from funds designated for art purchases toward its ambitious expansion and renovation project, reports The Plain Dealer.

The institution is $138-million short of its goal for the $350-million project. Michael Horvitz, president of the museum’s board, called the ruling – the first on the issue in Ohio since 1955 – “a very important piece of the puzzle.”
