Dartmouth College Receives $50-Million Gift

June 15, 2009

Dartmouth College has received a $50-million donation from a family that wants to keep anonymous, the college reports. The gift is the largest in Dartmouth’s history.

The money will be used to build a new visual-arts center and will be designed by the architects Machado and Silvetti Associates of Boston, who have worked on the Getty Villa in Malibu, Calif., the Rockefeller Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, N.Y., and additions to Bowdoin College’s Walker Art Building.

The family has been involved with the college for many years, Dartmouth officials said.
