Detroit Zoo Director to Lose a Month’s Pay

The board of directors of the Detroit Zoo announced on Monday that its executive director, Ron Kagan, will keep his job after falsely listing on his résumé that he had a doctoral degree in zoology, reports the Detroit Free Press.

Immediately after the announcement, Mr. Kagan, who has been at the helm of the park since 1992, issued an apology on the zoo’s Web site for the fabrication, which came to light after members of the board received an anonymous letter questioning whether Mr. Kagan had ever completed the degree. As part of the punishment, he will be docked a month’s pay — approximately $16,600.

“I accept the board’s sanctions with the seriousness with which they were given, and hope that my performance going forward will reinforce that they made the right decision,” Mr. Kagan wrote.
