Donor’s Wishes and University Clash in Land Dispute

Susan J. Watts, whose mother donated 300 acres in northern Colorado Springs to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, is involved in a dispute with the institution over whether it can build a research park on the land, reports the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Ms. Watts’s mother, Virginia Trembly, stipulated that her land be used for educational purposes instead of profit. The university wishes to build a research park with science labs, possibly leading to ventures with private businesses.
Ms. Watts, who does not plan to take legal action, said, “I want my mother’s gift to be handled with integrity.”
Ms. Watts and university officials are set to meet today.
