Who gave it: Jimmy Iovine, co-founder of Interscope Records, and Andre “Dr. Dre” Young, a music producer and rapper, are giving $35-million apiece.

Where the money will go: To establish the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation. The program will be a collaboration among its schools of business, engineering, fine arts, and music to help students become entrepreneurs.

Why the donors gave: “The lines between technology and the arts are starting to get blurred,” says Mr. Iovine. The donors said that’s why they asked USC what was needed to help students face today’s challenges.
