Dubai Leader Pledges $464-Million to Education Drive

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of the United Arab Emirates, has donated $464-million for a charity drive assisted by the United Nations to assure that children in needy countries receive an elementary-school education, reports Agence France-Presse.

With Sheikh Mohammed’s donation, the education effort, called Dubai Cares, has raised nearly $1-billion. He is also vice president and prime minister of the emirates.

He previously announced that he would provide $10-billion to improve education in the Middle East.
