eBay’s Omidyar Donates $50-Million to Hawaii Foundation

Pierre Omidyar, founder of eBay, and his wife have pledged $50-million over six years to the Hawaii Community Foundation, a gift the charity says may be the largest by a living donor in the state’s history, the Honolulu Advertiser reports.
The funds will be used to pay for several new local efforts and support ongoing efforts by the foundation’s Omidyar Ohana Fund.
Pam Omidyar grew up in Hawaii, and Mr. Omidyar lived there for a time as a boy, attending the same school as President Obama. The couple moved back to the state with their three children in 2006 and have since established the Ulupono Initiative, a vehicle for social investment in renewable energy, local food production, and waste reduction, and other Hawaii-based projects.
