Edwards Campaign Donates Lawyer’s Contributions

September 20, 2007

The presidential campaign of John Edwards has donated $4,600 in contributions from a trial lawyer who pleaded guilty to a charge of federal conspiracy this week, reports the Associated Press.

William Lerach and his former law firm, Milberg Weiss, were indicted for paying people to serve as plaintiffs in class-action lawsuits. Mr. Lerach and other associates of his current law firm, Lerach Coughlin, based in San Diego, contributed $81,000 to the Edwards campaign.

The campaign did not specify which charity or charities will be given the money.
