Leading Beyond the Walls

This collection of 24 essays inaugurates the “Wisdom to Action” series of the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management.
The book’s contributors — whose ranks include academics, business leaders, management consultants, and charity executives — examine the approaches that leaders of organizations must take to succeed in a global environment: the “world without walls.”
Authors include Mr. Drucker, a professor at Claremont Graduate University, in California, who presents a historical argument for living in a pluralistic society; Regina E. Herzlinger, a professor of business administration at Harvard Business School, who uses the recent financial woes of the Kaiser Permanente health-care organization to caution against unchecked growth; and Roxanne Spillett, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, who relates her own organization’s success in establishing partnerships with businesses and celebrity spokespeople.
