Ex-Finance Officer’s Book Puts Hadassah Back in Madoff Spotlight

After spending months promoting the message that it has moved past the Bernard Madoff scandal, the Jewish charity Hadassah finds itself back under the microscope with an ex-official’s revelation of her affair with the convicted swindler, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports.

The publication of the book by Sheryl Weinstein, the group’s former chief financial officer, has reopened questions about how one of the world’s largest Jewish service organizations ended up investing $40-million in Mr. Madoff’s Ponzi scheme and whether it could be forced to return money it made through Mr. Madoff’s firm.

Appearing Tuesday on ABC’s Good Morning America, Ms. Weinstein said she wrote the book because her story was the only thing of value she had to sell to make good on the money her own family lost investing with Mr. Madoff.
