Federal Grant Information Available Online

January 8, 2004 | Read Time: 1 minute

A new Web site, Grants.gov, provides information about how to find and apply to federal grant programs.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services led the development of the Web site, which includes information about more than 800 grant programs run by 26 federal grant-making agencies that together award more than $360-billion annually to charities, universities, state and local government agencies, and other organizations.

Tommy G. Thompson, Secretary of Health and Human Services, said he hoped the new site would “level the playing field” by helping organizations that are unfamiliar with federal grant programs identify and apply for appropriate grants.

Five agencies — the U.S. Departments of Commerce, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, and Justice — currently offer applications on the site that organizations can download, complete, and submit online, and other federal agencies are expected to add applications in coming months.
