February 10, 2009
The California Community Foundation, in Los Angeles, will unveil today a five-year, $3.75-million program to improve English-language and job skills and increase civic participation among the city’s immigrants, according to the Los Angeles Times.
A report to be released in conjunction with today’s announcement documents the economic impact of immigrants, who make up nearly half of the Los Angeles work force, and asserts a pressing need for English classes, job training, and leadership programs for foreign-born residents.
