Gates Foundation Awards $15-Million to AIDS Researchers

AIDS researchers working to develop a vaccine at the University of Maryland got a boost this week with a $15-million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, reports The Sun, in Baltimore.
Robert Gallo — who co-discovered the human immunodeficiency virus, which causes AIDS — and his Institute of Human Virology will receive the five-year grant money to further develop a vaccine that takes into account the way the AIDS virus tends to mutate, the paper reports. The institute is part of the university’s medical school.
