Gates Foundation Gives $20-Million to Calif. College

September 5, 2007

According to a press release on the institution’s Web site, Claremont McKenna College has received a $20-million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to create the Interdisciplinary Science Scholarship Program.

The program, which pays full tuition, aims to encourage science leadership. The recipients will be selected based on financial need, academic performance, and leadership potential and must hold two majors: one in science, the other in a nonscience area such as philosophy or government.

The college expects 170 students to receive the scholarship over the next 15 years.
