Georgia Aquarium Keeps Title as World’s Biggest With $110-Million Expansion

The Georgia Aquarium has announced plans to build a $110-million, 1.5 million-gallon expansion, holding on to its reputation as the “world’s largest aquarium,” reports The New York Times.
“This is the next ‘big wow,’” said Bernard Marcus, founder of the Home Depot and one of the Georgia Aquarium’s chief backers.
The aquarium, which already contains 8 million gallons of water and 80,000 animals, plans to open its new exhibit — which will include dolphins — in 2010, beating out an attraction set to open in 2009 in Dubai that claims will be “world’s largest indoor marine mammal pavilion.”
