Getty Employees Seek to Put Scandal Behind

After the psychological toll borne by Getty employees as a result of scandals that have dogged the organization, some staff members see the institution’s announcement this week that it would return 40 antiquities to Italy as a sign for optimism, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Employees said they saw the announcement as an indication that the Getty can finally move past the controversy it has been mired in for the last two years.
Said Timothy Whalen, director of the Getty Conservation Institute, “I had a staff member tear up Wednesday at the thought that this was all behind us and we could continue our work unfettered.”
