Golf Charity Brags About $20,000 It Never Delivered

A charity golf tournament in Knoxville, Tenn., has been bragging on its Web site that it delivered a $20,000 check to a local charity, despite never having done so, reports a local television station, WBIR.
The Foot Wedge Invitational Golf Tournament said that it raised that amount for Catholic Charities’ Columbus Home, a center for teenage boys, and that it helped Columbus Home build a new wing. But neither of those things happened, said the charity’s director.
Shortly after the charity contacted the news media about its concerns, someone hand-delivered a $4,000 check signed by the president of the Foot Wedge tournament. A similar check to Columbus Home last year bounced.
