Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:

Responses to Charlottesville violence

Several corporations made grant commitments in response to the violence perpetrated by hate groups in Charlottesville, Va.

Apple committed $1 million each to the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center. The company also announced it will match employee donations to human-rights groups through the end of September.

JPMorgan Chase announced a commitment of $1.05 million to those two antidiscrimination groups and the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. The company plans to run a workplace-giving campaign in September and will match up to $500,000.

MGM Resorts International pledged to match employee donations to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, the Human Rights Campaign, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates, and the League of United Latin American Citizens.


Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption

$7.5 million to the New York City Administration for Children’s Services to expand a program that matches older foster children, and those with special needs, with permanent families.

Wegman Family Charitable Foundation

$5 million to Rochester Regional Health’s learning center in Irondequoit, N.Y., which provides training for staff members.

Conrad N. Hilton Foundation

Nearly $4 million over five years to 17 medical researchers through the Marilyn Hilton Award for Innovation in Multiple Sclerosis Research.

Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund

$1 million to the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation for scholarships to children of military members who died while serving.

Braman Family Foundation

$1 million to Miami Dade College and Florida International University for scholarships designed to help seniors complete their degrees.
