Grants Roundup: $9 Million From Paul Allen Fund Backs Penn Concussion Research

Here are notable new grants compiled by The Chronicle:
Paul G. Allen Family Foundation
$9.25 million to researchers at the University of Pennsylvania studying and developing treatments for concussions.
Give Something Back
$1 million to Chapman University for 50 scholarships for students who have faced challenges such as spending time in foster care or having a parent in prison.
Levi Strauss Foundation
$1 million to nonprofits that protect the rights of immigrants, refugees, religious minorities, and transgender people. Recipients include United We Dream, the San Francisco chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and the Transgender Law Center.
Pohlad Family Foundation
$1 million in emergency grants to up to 20 nonprofits in Minnesota affected by the Greater Twin Cities United Way’s $6 million budget shortfall and funding cuts. The foundation invited 40 nonprofits that have lost at least 40 percent of their United Way funding to apply for grants.
Hollywood Foreign Press Association
$500,000 to the International Rescue Committee for its programs supporting refugees.
