Grants Roundup: Brown Med School Gets $27 Million; $2 Million Backs Ill. Prairie Project

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:
Warren Alpert Foundation
$27 million to Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School to endow programs to train M.D./Ph.D. students as well as a professorship.
K&L Gates
$10 million from the international law firm to create the K&L Gates Endowment for Ethics and Computational Technologies at Carnegie Mellon University, which will use the funds to study ethical and policy issues related to artificial intelligence.
Ball Brothers Foundation
$3.7 million to multiple nonprofits that serve the Muncie, Ind., area. Recipients include the Minnetrista Cultural Foundation, Cardinal Greenways, and the Delaware Advancement Corporation.
St. Baldrick’s Foundation
$2.1 million to multiple universities and hospitals studying childhood cancer.
Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation and Grand Victoria Foundation
$1-million challenge grants from each foundation to the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie outside of Chicago to restore 1,800 acres of prairie to its natural state.
Sun Life Financial
$1 million to the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Foundation to create the Sun Life Financial Diabetes College to promote diabetes prevention and management.
