Guilt and Purpose Drive Young Heirs to Focus on Philanthropy

Children of privilege who inherit fortunes at a young age often struggle to find a moral balance between using their riches for personal benefit and meeting the social responsibilities they believe wealth confers, The Washington Post reports.

Some Washington-area members of Resource Generation, a nonprofit group of 35-and-under heirs who do charity and social-justice work, aim to live modestly, focus on philanthropy, and resist dependence on their wealthy parents. The Council on Foundations started a Next Generation task force this year to explore ways to support young philanthropists.
