Gulf Coast Libraries Receive Bush-Clinton Grants

The Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund will donate $2.8-million to help rebuild public libraries in Louisiana that were severely damaged after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, reports The New Orleans Times-Picayune.
New Orleans libraries will receive $1.6-million and Jefferson Parish libraries $1.2-million. The Americans for Libraries Council will oversee and distribute the grants.
Katrina caused $21-million of damage to public libraries in New Orleans, but the New Orleans Library Foundation has set a goal of raising $35-million, not only to rebuild but also to expand and improve library services.
The Bush-Clinton Fund will also donate $600,000 to libraries in Mississippi’s Hancock and Harrison counties.
