Harvard Expert on Charities to Lead a Catholic Charities Affiliate

Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, the Archbishop of Boston, appointed Tiziana Dearing to be president of Catholic Charities in Eastern Massachusetts, the first woman to hold the position, reports the Boston Herald.

Ms. Dearing is currently executive director of the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University and will begin at Catholic Charities this September. The agency, with a $38-million budget, serves about 200,000 people last year.

“To come to the job I’m going to, you have to be passionate about the poor and the issues that affect them, and I anticipate this job will allow me to continue to be passionate about those issues,” says Ms. Dearing. “Catholic Charities is a solid organization, but there is also a growing need for it.”
