Harvard U. Seeks to Manage More of Its Own Investments

August 25, 2009

Harvard University is moving to manage more of its endowment internally, rather than hiring outside organizations to handle the investments, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The institution is overhauling its approach after its endowment lost as much as 30 percent in value over the past year. Jane Mendillo, who took over the top job overseeing the endowment last year, is selling hedge-fund and private-equity holdings and putting more assets under her own staff’s purview, the article says.
