Home-Repair Ministry Is Among ‘Points of Light’

Following are the people and organizations that have most recently been named to receive President Bush’s Daily Points of Light Award.

The recipients:
2372. Appalachia Service Project, Johnson City, Tenn., a Christian ministry through which volunteers repair the homes of impoverished families in the rural Appalachian regions of Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
2373. Making a Difference Foundation’s Tidewater Youth Enrichment Coalition, Virginia Beach, a program through which teenage volunteers advise and tutor children, and distribute donated clothing and food to needy families.
2374. Joseph Curry, Keswick, Va., who worked with the local chapter of the MS Society to develop an aquatic-fitness program for people with multiple sclerosis and to create a national public-service announcement about the disease.
2375. Helen Golod, Stuart, Fla., who, for the past four years, has volunteered with the Martin County Chapter of the American Red Cross to help coordinate the response of rescue workers to fires, hazardous-material spills, and other emergencies. She has also worked on various national disaster-relief efforts, including spending 10 weeks in New York following the attacks on the World Trade Center.
2376. Fashionably Frankford, Philadelphia, a project operated by students at Frankford High School that provides business clothing to needy men and women who have completed a job-training program.
2377. Virginia Proctor, Decatur, Ga., who co-founded the International Nursing Services Association, now known as Global Health Action, to train health professionals worldwide in leadership and management skills. Ms. Proctor has also raised money for GHA’s Give a Goat Project, which provides Haitian families with goats that they can use for milk, meat, or income.
2378. Jean Jordan, Natchitoches, La., who distributes donations of food, clothing, and furniture to needy people, raises funds for cancer research and treatment, and participates in other service projects.
