House Approves Increase in Federal Spending on the Arts

The House of Representatives on Friday approved fiscal 2010 budgets of $170-million each for the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The House plan increases spending for both agencies by 9.7 percent. The vote sets the stage for a battle in the Senate, where the Appropriations Committee proposes $161.3-million budgets for the cultural agencies.
