How Small Charities Can Spur Donors to Give Monthly

March 31, 2009 | Read Time: 1 minute

Greg Gorman, development director at St. Mary’s Catholic Center in College Station, Tex., says roughly one-sixth of his budget — about $300,000 — comes from monthly gifts from donors who pay with debit and credit cards.

Those donors have become a source of consistent, predictable income for his organization — and he believes they are likely candidates for more significant gifts in the future, Mr. Gorman told participants at the Association of Fundraising Professionals meeting today.

Most efforts to attract monthly gifts are undertaken by big charities, but Mr. Gorman explains how small groups can do it in an audio interview with The Chronicle.
