IMMIGRATION FIGHT

Catholic Cardinal Roger M. Mahony of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Wednesday said he would order his priests to defy proposed federal legislation that would require churches and charities to ask immigrants for legal documentation before providing aid, reports the Los Angeles Times. The proposal recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives, and the U.S. Senate is expected to debate a similar measure soon.
