In the Arts: Donors Step Up to Save Film Series; Bob Dylan Album to Benefit Antihunger Group

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Time Warner Cable have pledged a combined $150,000 to save the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s weekend cinema series, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The money will extend the life of the 40-year-old film program through the end of the fiscal year in June, a museum spokeswoman said. The financially strapped institution’s plan to end the series in October had provoked appeals from film buffs and major Hollywood figures such as Martin Scorsese.

In other arts news, proceeds from Bob Dylan’s recently announced album of holiday songs will benefit the hunger charity Feeding America, Billboard reports.

And the Associated Press says that an anonymous donor has given the Houston Salvation Army several works by the famed Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali. The charity is displaying the works in one of its thrift stores while conducting an auction through the end of September.
