In the Arts: Future Unclear for Modern-Art Collection, Embattled Theater Chief Quits

San Francisco art institutions are worried that The Gap founder Donald Fisher will move his massive contemporary-art trove out of town now that plans to build a museum for it at the historic Presidio have been quashed, says the Los Angeles Times.
The thousand-piece collection, featuring works by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein and conservatively valued in the tens of millions of dollars, is now housed in a warehouse at Gap headquarters. A family spokesman said several cities have expressed interest, but Mr. Fisher’s “priority is to keep the collection in San Francisco.”
In other arts news, the embattled managing director of Milwaukee’s Skyline Opera Theater has resigned, the Journal Sentinel reports. Eric Dillner had alienated many subscribers and artists by firing the company’s longtime artistic director in June.
And The New York Times reports that the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation has named Laura Kuhn, Patricia Lent, Allan G. Sperling, and Robert Swinston as trustees, charged with preserving the late choreographer’s legacy. All four were longtime associates of Mr. Cunningham, who died last month at the age of 90.
