In the Arts: NEA’s Landesman Plans National Tour, and More

Following in the footsteps of several of his predecessors, the newly installed National Endowment for the Arts chief Rocco Landesman announced plans for a whistle-stop tour of arts organizations across America, reports The Washington Post.

Speaking to a conference of arts grant makers in Brooklyn, Mr. Landesman said the trip next month would “spotlight all the ways that art works.” The first stop is planned for Peoria, Ill., a city whose theater scene was disparaged by the former Broadway producer shortly before he accepted the NEA leadership role.

In other arts news, the Philadelphia Museum of Art named Gail Harrity, its longtime chief operating officer, as president, reinstituting an office and title that have been dormant since 1996, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Ms. Harrity joined the museum management in 1997 and served as interim chief executive for over a year until Timothy Rub was hired earlier this year.

And New York’s City Opera and City Ballet have put aside longtime tensions to co-exist as tenants in the renovated David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, says The New York Times.
