Insurance Company Gives $1-Million to King Memorial

Prudential Financial has given a $1-million donation to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project, bringing the project’s total raised to $79-million, reports The Washington Post.
The project needs $100-million to begin construction on the National Mall, in Washington. Other major gifts have come from General Motors ($10-million), the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation ($5-million), and the National Basketball Association and Women’s National Basketball Association ($3-million), the Post reports.
Harry E. Johnson Jr., president of the memorial foundation, tells the paper the effort is on track to build the memorial, which is expected to be completed in 2008. A “Dream Concert” fund-raising event is planned for September at Radio City Music Hall, in New York.
