Jane Goodall’s Conservation Charity Hit by Recession

Despite increasing interest in global conservation issues, the nonprofit group founded by Jane Goodall, the noted primatologist, has been hit hard by the worldwide financial crisis, according to Reuters.
The Jane Goodall Institute, which works to conserve primate habitats, has seen donations drop by roughly 10 percent since the fall, says Ms. Goodall.
“The private donors and some of the foundations pulled back,” she says.
The group, which runs on an annual budget of under $11-million, has dipped into its endowment to maintain programs. It has also trimmed some projects and laid off staff members.
