Lawsuit Settlement May Go to Charities

A small portion of the settlement from a patent-infringement lawsuit between phone companies Verizon and Vonage may end up going to several charities, reports The Washington Post.
But continuing disputes between the companies could cause the donation plan to collapse. If Verizon wins, it will receive $120-million, of which $2.5-million will be donated. If Vonage wins, it will still pay $80-million, but no amount will be donated.
Five educational nonprofit groups selected by the Verizon Foundation may receive the money.
