Leader Shifts From Charity to Private Foundation

The new president of the McKnight Foundation, in Minneapolis, has made the transition from grant seeker to grant maker, reports The Pioneer Press, in St. Paul.

Kate Wolford, 49, previously president of Lutheran World Relief, in Baltimore, last December took the helm of the foundation that gives more money to Minnesota causes than any other, according to the paper. She tells the paper she was excited to work for a family foundation with a passion for using its money for the public good.

Ms. Wolford says her “mantra” as the foundation’s newest president is to not take the State of Minnesota for granted. “We probably need a higher sense of urgency,” she says.
