Leading Central Florida Antipoverty Charity Is Closing Its Doors

One of Orlando’s largest antipoverty charities will close at the end of the month, squeezed by a simultaneous 40-percent increase in demand and a 40 percent drop in donations, reports The Orlando Sentinel.

The Destiny Foundation of Central Florida — which was providing subsidized groceries, clothing, medical care, job counseling, and other services to an estimated 10,000 people a month and this past spring opened a free clinic — is $200,000 in debt to vendors and private lenders and can no longer afford its sprawling warehouse headquarters.
