Lehman Brothers Pledges $10-Million to Spelman College

Lehman Brothers Holdings announced yesterday that it has pledged $10-million to Spelman College, a historically black women’s college in Atlanta, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The donation will be used to create the Lehman Brothers Center for Global Finance and Economic Development at Spelman and to pay for new curriculum and courses, the creation of a scholarship program, and the recruitment of faculty members.
One goal of the grant is to help build a more diversified workforce in financial services. “It’s not just about hiring students,” Beverly Daniel Tatum, Spelman’s president, told the newspaper. “It’s really about creating a broad opportunity for women of color to participate in economic development globally, as well as domestically.”
